Axis Teach Workflow
Axis Teach is the workflow used for point-based teach correction of one or more selected points. It allows the operator to adjust a point’s position and orientation using offset values and write back the resulting machine or robot axis values into the program.
Unlike Pivot Teach, which performs pivot-based geometric transformations, Axis Teach is designed for direct teaching of points in a machine- or robot-oriented way.
Use Axis Teach when the goal is to correct a point based on its actual position and orientation, and store the resulting axis values in the program.

Use Axis Teach when you want to:
- teach a point based on the actual machine or robot position
- correct one or more points directly on the shopfloor
- update resulting axis values (for example X/Y/Z, A/B/C, robot joints)
- preview the correction before writing it back
- avoid manual editing of axis values in the program
Axis Teach is especially useful when the correction must reflect the real kinematic behavior of the machine or robot, not only a geometric offset.

💡 Tip: Axis Teach and Pivot Teach are two separate workflows with different goals and results. Choose the workflow that matches the intended correction.
How Axis Teach works
Think of Axis Teach like this:
- you select one or more points
- you adjust the position and or orientation
- the system calculates the resulting machine or robot axis values
- you preview the result in the 3D Viewer
- you press Accept to write the updated values into the program
Each selected point is processed using its own local context, not a shared pivot.
Selection behavior
Axis Teach starts from the same selection mechanisms used throughout Shopfloor Assistant:
- selection from the NC Editor
- selection from the 3D Viewer
- single-point or multi-point selection
When multiple points are selected:
- the same input offsets are applied
- each point is calculated independently
- each point writes back its own resulting axis values
This ensures predictable, point-accurate corrections.
Preview behavior
Axis Teach provides a temporary preview of the result in the 3D Viewer before confirmation.
During preview:
- the modified toolpath or point position is displayed temporarily
- the original program remains unchanged
- the preview reflects the current edited values
- the operator can visually validate the correction
No changes are written to the program until Accept is pressed.
Typical Axis Teach workflow
Use the following sequence when working with Axis Teach:

Select the point or points - Select one or more points from the NC Editor or directly from the 3D Viewer. The selection defines which points will be corrected.

Enter teach offsets - In the Axis Teach Panel, enter the required offsets: translation offsets (for example X, Y, Z) and orientation or rotation offsets (controller-specific). The offsets are interpreted relative to each point’s current position and orientation.

Preview the result - The system calculates the resulting machine or robot axis values and displays a preview in the 3D Viewer. Use the preview to check the new point position, orientation changes, trajectory continuity, and clearance and reachability.

Apply the correction - Press Accept to confirm the correction.
After Accept:
- the resulting axis values are written into the program
- the preview becomes the active result
- the 3D Viewer updates with the new program state
- Validate visually - After applying the correction, inspect the result in the 3D Viewer.
Check:
- geometry correctness
- orientation behavior
- distances and clearances
- overall motion continuity
What Axis Teach changes
Axis Teach updates:
- the resulting axis values of the selected points
- the stored program data for those points
This applies to:
- CNC machines (cartesian and rotary axes)
- robots (joint or cartesian representations, depending on controller)
What Axis Teach does not do
Axis Teach does not:
- apply pivot-based transformations
- use a shared pivot for multiple points
For pivot-based geometric movement, use Pivot Teach.
Operator insights
- Use Axis Teach when you want to teach the point, not move geometry around a pivot.
- Each selected point writes back its own axis values.
- Always inspect the preview before pressing Accept.
- Use Axis Teach for machine- or robot-oriented corrections.
- Use Pivot Teach for geometric repositioning.
- If the result looks wrong, discard the preview and adjust the values.
